Uncommon Errors and How To Repair Them

While working on your Windows PC, you may encounter several errors. In this article, we are going to discuss the methods you can use to resolve a few uncommon errors.

Code 39 and Code 10 Errors

Corrupt, missing, or incomplete device drivers are the main causes behind code 39 and code 10 errors.

A code 10 error is displayed when there is a problem with a device driver file and there is no FailReasonString value defined in its hardware key.

“This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)”

You may receive the following message with error code 39 when there is some problem with the driver of your CD-ROM drive and it is not visible in the My Computer options.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

You can fix the above error by updating the faulty driver. To do this, perform the following steps:

1. Open Control Panel from Start menu, select the Performance and Maintenance link and then select the System link.
2. Open the Hardware tab on the displayed System Properties dialog box, and then select the Device Manager button.
3. Here, scroll down the list of installed hardware, identify the faulty device—marked with a yellow triangle comprising a black exclamation mark—and then double-click on it to open its properties dialog box.
4. Open the Driver tab and select the Update Driver button to start updating the driver of the faulty device.

ccSvcHst.exe Error

The ccSvcHst.exe error occurs on systems that have Norton products, such as Norton 2007, installed on them. The cause of the error is a bug in certain versions of Norton products. You usually receive the error message during system startup and shutdown processes. When the error occurs, the following error message maybe generated.

“ccSvcHst.exe – Application error
The instruction at "0x059a2df" referenced memory at 0x059a2df" the memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the Program.”

An erroneous ccSvcHost.exe file may also slow down your PC when it is functional. Although no specific error message is displayed, you may diagnose the problem by opening the Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl+Atl+Del keys and then checking the CPU usage of the ccSvcHost process.

The bug due to which the above error is caused has been rectified in the latest Norton update. Therefore, your first step to fix the error is to run the Live Update utility included in your Norton product and update it.

However, if the error remains even after the update, then you will have to perform a complete uninstall of the Norton product and then reinstall it. Although you can uninstall using the Add or Remove Programs option in the Control Panel of your Windows computer, this method does not assure you of a clean and complete uninstall. Therefore, the best method to uninstall a Norton product is by downloading and using the Norton removal tool for your product.

To be sure of complete uninstallation, you can follow up the removal process with a registry scan by using a registry scanner tool. This tool will weed out any orphan keys left behind by your Norton product and enable you to get rid of them.

Many system errors such as the ones discussed above are caused by problems in the  registry and malware infections. You must also never forget to run regular full system scans using your antivirus and antispyware tools to maintain a malware free, healthy, high performance, Windows system.
